GFO (Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft der Franziskanerinnen zu Olpe) is a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive, high-quality care ranging from obstetrics to geriatric and palliative care. The association unites over 100 facilities across 130 locations and 15,000 employees, including clinics, care centers, kindergartens, and schools.

However, the fact that GFO brought many organizations together under one roof was not clearly communicated externally.
The organization identified the following challenges:

  1. Lack of consistent visual language.
  2. Lack of uniformity in naming
  3. Outdated corporate design

Additionally, numerous GFO websites needed technical updates, as they were based on an outdated TYPO3 version that would soon no longer receive support.
Facing these challenges, GFO decided to relaunch its approximately 120 websites together with SUNZINET.

Project Goals

Strengthen the perception of the GFO brand as one strong association

We wanted to ensure that the various GFO facilities were not perceived in isolation but as part of a strong network.

The aim of the brand -relaunch was the following:

  • Emphasize the size, professionalism, and full-service approach of GFO through a uniform digital presence.
  • Attract more patients and other target groups and position itself as an attractive employer.

Our Solution

One Association, One System: Mapping 120 Websites in TYPO3

GFO wanted to consolidate all 120 websites of its facilities into one system. This offers numerous advantages such as simpler content editing, reduced maintenance work, and the reuse of modules across different pages.

With this in mind, we chose TYPO3 as the CMS. The open-source software is particularly strong for multi-domain projects. It also excelled with its high performance, security, GDPR compliance, and the ability to customize the software to meet the customer's individual needs.

Additionally, the system helped us achieve GFO's operational goals, such as:

  • Increasing the visibility of the GFO website
  • Eliminating security gaps
  • Optimizing editorial processes, such as content maintenance

Implementation

Step by step to a uniform web presence

User experience and design: Based on the brand strategy, our experts enhanced GFO's existing corporate design and used is as basis to create the new web design. Focus lay on emphasizing the unity of the institutions. A comprehensive UX concept was to ensure a consistent user journey across the various websites. The GFO's navigation concept was also revised as part of this process.

Search engine optimization: In order to increase the visibility of GFO on Google, we performed a detailed analysis of the status quo as well as a content audit. We documented the performance of various websites and identified potential for optimization. On this basis, our SEO experts made recommendations for suitable measures to improve the Google ranking.

Web Development: Reworking the outdated TYPO3 system would have cost a disproportionate amount of time and effort – with this in mind, we decided to completely rebuild the CMS on the basis of TYPO3 11. We set up all 120 websites in TYPO3, developed a template according to the design specifications and implemented the desired features and extensions. The various websites were to have slight differences in terms of design – especially in the color scheme. We implemented these accordingly.

Security and Compliance: Our experts implemented a authorization concept as well as a backup and restore concept for the websites. During the technical implementation, we always ensured compliance with the strict data protection and security guidelines and GDPR requirements.

Marketing Automation: To expand GFO's marketing automation capabilities, we integrated the open source software Mautic into the TYPO3 platform.

A user-friendly navigation on the GFO network's homepage leads to the websites of the various facilities.

  • Sticky Navigation Bar

With the sticky navbar, users have access to the most important GFO content and contact options at all times.
  • Pop-up Teaser

The Result: GFO's Organizations United and Strengthened with a Uniform Brand Strategy

GFO has been transformed with a fresh, modern look! We are thrilled to share that 110 of the approximately 120 websites are now live.
Our team ensured that GFO reaps the full benefits of this brand relaunch, delivering a unified and engaging digital presence that truly reflects the strength and professionalism of the association.
